VOICE 2012 Drops A Bombshell

Oh man, James Alburger and Penny Abshire just blew all our minds when they recently announced that VOICE would be held in Disneyland in June of next year.  “I’m going to Disneyland!” remarked a million unfunny people referencing pop culture jokes from a few years back.  Regardless, I am going to Disneyland.

We have been to VOICE the past few years and I was a huge fan of their last venue1 but this is just amazing.  Huge, huge kudos to them for pulling this off.  The amount of work that must go into securing a deal like this must be phenomenal.

There are a few more voiceover events to choose from the past few years (ours included), and you should certainly go to them all if you can, but this is the grandaddy of them all.  Days of classes, amazing events, an incredible variety of things to learn and do and apparently, um, rides!2  All of this for a reasonable price as well considering what is offered.

Wanna go?  Of course you do, you’re no idiot.  Clickety click on the banner up top there and get all the rich creamy details.3

1. There was a huge bar.  Right in the middle of the lobby.  It was beautiful.
2. Plus me.  Don’t miss out on your chance to meet me!
3. Sorry, I was looking at that Kudos bar picture.

What Is Erik Sheppard Doing At VOICE?

Good question.  Thanks for asking.

If you haven’t bought a ticket yet then you probably wont be coming.  Understandable.  However, if you will be attending then you might as well make the most of it by coming to my tersely titled class, Simple Mistakes Talent Make Every Day: How Not to Make Agents and Casting Directors Nuts! This will be an early afternoon break-out session from 2:00-3:30.  Geared towards all levels of talent, we are going to discuss about a million little things that I guaranfreakingtee you do all the time that are causing you to lose work and opportunities.  Basically I’m going to yell at you for an hour and a half and tell you to quit it.  I’m sure it will be quite cathartic for me and that you will cry and beg for forgiveness.  We’ll see.

Either way there will be a slide show with tons of funny pictures and we plan to have a low key and enjoyable time where you can learn a thing or two, improve your chances of getting work and hopefully laugh and enjoy yourselves.  Don’t let this blog fool you, I am quite the humorist.  There may also be a few dirty words and some brief nudity depending on how many cocktails I had for lunch prior.  Fortunately nothing else of note will be going on at the same time so you really don’t have an excuse to not be there.1

The Voice Talent Productions staff will also be at the Poolside Mixer on Saturday and will be accepting demo submissions at that time.  The office is in dire need of coasters.  Be sure to stop by and say hello.  I’ll try to get LindZ in a bikini for you.

Thanks for the indulgence.  I look forward to seeing you all there.

1. Alright, a few other things are going on at the same time but listen up: Cashman eats puppies.  I swear to God I have seen him do it.  He acted like it was no big deal.  He just smashed its little head in and ate it raw.  You don’t want to condone that type of behavior, do you?

The Erik and Ember Show Episode 6: James and Penny from VOICE 2010

Obviously hundreds of you are going to VOICE 2010 because you heard that I will be presenting there.  Completely understandable.  However, after talking with our friends and VOICE head-honchos James Alburger and Penny Abshire (looking adorable in that picture over there)1, it turns out there are other things planned for the conference as well!  Who knew?

Listen in as September and I grill them about the origins of VOICE, why you should go, why it’s worth the money and how much you will suck if you don’t go.  It was really quite an illuminating chat.  Actually, it’s mostly Penny and Ember saying intelligent things while James and I made fart noises with our armpits, but it’s still a must-listen for anyone attending or anyone still on the fence (hint: do it).

Clickety click on the player to the right to get the full scoop, check it out on our News page or download it to your portable computerized audio listening device through iTunes.2 Your choice, I cant keep making these decisions for you anymore.

1. Trivia fact, they killed a man in a botched robbery attempt hours after it was taken.
2. For those of you keeping score at home, I get extra points for all the links in this post.

Voice Talent Productions Roster In Full Force At VOICE 2010

Man, we are all over this thing like white on rice.  First off, those of you who are not hip to the whole VOICE thing1 are invited to please visit the main VOICE 2010 site to get up to speed.  Be sure to click on the “Conference Schedule” tab up top to get a rundown of the goings on and to decide which sessions to sign up for.  In addition to our fabulous hosts James Alburger and Penny Abshire you will find such VTP notables as our friend from the north Deb Munro, French sympathizer Liz de Nesnera, VO coach to the stars Marc Cashman, voiceover lawyer Robert Sciglimpaglia, author Peter Rofe and curmudgeon Terry Daniel.  Plus, the incredible Dave Courvoisier and Bobbin Beam will be there to keep things rolling along smoothly.  Word on the street is that even yours truly will be presenting.2 The Voice Talent Productions staff will also be present at the poolside mixer being held on Saturday and will be accepting submission packages and business cards from talent wishing to speak with us at that time.  More information on that and updates on what we may be up to at the conference can be found on the Events page of the VTP site.  Seriously, be there or be square.3

Unfortunately, Sharktopus will be unable to attend.

1. Seriously?
2. Ahem.
3. Daddy-o.

The Countdown to VOICE 2010 Begins. With Video!

Well, my friends James Alburger and Penny Abshire are at it again and have just recently announced preliminary information about the next VOICE conference.  We do have a bit of time as it does not take place until early June of next year but it may be a good idea to place it in your schedules now.  It does cost a few bucks, especially if you are coming from out of town, but it is absolutely worth every penny.  I don’t know of one person who I met last year that is not planning on coming next year so it promises to once again be a veritable who’s who of the voiceover industry.  It really is THE voiceover event to attend for everyone from newbies to seasoned professionals alike.  Word on the street is that even Erik Sheppard himself will be there.1

Taking a “if it aint broke don’t fix it” approach they have decided to once again hold the event in Los Angeles at the same Hyatt Regency Century Plaza as last time.  I know all of our readers are class acts and insist on only the best but it is a fairly swanky place so I think you may be able to get by.  I highly recommend getting a massage at the attached spa as well.  Nice.

Obviously there are going to be an amazing selection of breakout sessions to choose from and enough displays and events to fill up your day but you can learn quite a lot just chatting up some of the other professionals at the bar or the pool and simply enjoy what is certainly our industry’s largest water cooler event.

Captain Obvious says: "Do the right thing kids, come to VOICE"

If you have not attended in the past (I’m looking at you de Nesnera) then please check out the VTP Blog exclusive2 video above cobbled together rather nicely by James from footage taken at VOICE 2008 to give you an idea of what you will be in for.  Once you have made the wise choice to attend, head on over to the official site to bookmark it and sign up for updates as more information becomes available.

Coming?3 Leave an unofficial RSVP in the comments below and let us know if we have to find/try to avoid you there.

1. Hint: Check the bar area for appearances.
2. Alright, maybe not all that exclusive since it is at the top of their official site but I am the first to have it on a blog.  So there.
3. Of course you are.
